ALLEGORY OF THE CAVE SONNET

Shackled not only by chains
Prisoners can only see shadows
The only world they know
Is one that nobody else does

The darkness engulfs them
There is nothing else to see
All they see is all they know
But what if they are blind

Ignorant of their surroundings
Enlightenment won't follow them
Forever chained in their cave
Prisoners of their own mind

The search for light
Must begin within themselves.

  1. I like your imagery of the darkness (makes sense coming from me) :) And nice job overall, Rachel!

  2. I agree with Brenna, the dark descriptive words totally make an ironic contrast to the brightness of your blog. Especially with your happy photo right there. The sonnet lacks a rhyming scheme, but it does have great vocabulary and ideas.
    WOOP!

I love the fishy game. Yay fishy.

My question is, when did Charles Dickens die, and from what?

  3. Rachel! I love your sonnet, gives me the chills. The couplet at the end really concludes your sonnet. Good job!
Also, your blog is a beauty! I love the brightness. What is your strategy for the final?

    1. Thank you Miki! and I am going to study the vocabulary constantly. That will be the biggest challenge I face with the upcoming finals for this class!

I also love the layout of your blog! The paintbrush and color scheme is very original and positive!

So, what book did you choose to read within your literary circle and why?

    1. Thanks! and We chose Great Expectations because they didn't want to read about the French Revolution or Henry V.

  5. Rachel! You did a great job of bringing in the perspective of the ignorant prisoners. Somewhat making my pity them, but then the ending for me brings me back to, "well they need to figure it out". Nice work!

  6. Hi Rachel! I really liked your sonnet and how you were able to create so much imagery. I also liked how you didn't rhyme like many of the others.

I'm doing two for one! I really like how simple your blog is. It makes it really easy for the viewer to look at all the different aspects of it.
