2. I think Levi's chose this poem because it conveys the sense of being young and striving to make the best of your life regardless of the obstacles in your way. Throughout the commercial it shows people facing "darkness"like police riots but they also find the "light", i.e. the couple kissing. It basically tells you that you have this one life and you have to make the most of it instead of dwelling upon the fact that death in inevitable. If you can find the "light" or the good, you can escape death for just a little bit because in those moments, it makes it all worth it. This is a message that is very appealing to people.
3. I do not feel like this poem represents the author's reputation as a poet because he writes about every day things in a somewhat negative way. This actually shows a positive look on life however. It is also longer than his typical poetry and also features some repetition.
4. To start my research on this, I searched some words in the poem to find out who wrote it and what it was called. I found it on http://thebestamericanpoetry.typepad.com/the_best_american_poetry/2008/11/the-laughing-he.html
Then to research what Bukowski's reputation as a poet is, I researched his biography and some of his quotes to get a feel of who he was at http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/13275.Charles_Bukowski
After that, I read some of his poems at http://www.famouspoetsandpoems.com/poets/charles_bukowski/poems to come to my conclusion for 3 (and 1).
